UTSAV – CELEBRATING DIGNITY AND TOGETHERNESS
Project UTSAV - Celebrating Dignity and Togetherness reminds us that the true spirit of Onam lives not in grand feasts or elaborate decor, but in the act of including every soul in the circle of celebration.
Title: A Festival of Freedom, Love, and Belonging
“When hearts come together, every moment becomes a celebration of hope.”
🌼 Where Celebration Meets Compassion
For many, Onam is a festival of colours, tradition, and joy. But for some, it’s a longing for a memory of what once was, a celebration that feels distant. Recognising this, Cahoots International Foundation, in collaboration with RED FM, decided to bring the spirit of Onam to where it’s needed the most among the resilient souls of Free Birds Child Care Home, Calicut.
Thus was born Project UTSAV – Celebrating Dignity and Togetherness, a heartfelt initiative that transformed an ordinary day into an unforgettable celebration of love, belonging, and renewal.
Led by Mr Amal Dz, Founder and Guru of Cahoots, and honoured by the gracious presence of District Judge R. L. Biju and District Collector Prasanth IAS, the event became a symbol of unity where compassion met culture, and hearts found home in togetherness.
💛 Beyond Celebration – A Festival of the Soul
As the morning sun lit up the courtyard, the air was filled with laughter, music, and the earthy scent of fresh flowers. Volunteers and residents came together to create a magnificent Pookkalam, a carpet of blossoms that mirrored the beauty of their shared humanity.
The rhythmic melodies of Onappattu echoed through the air, reminding everyone that traditions are not just rituals; they are bridges that connect hearts.
Children danced, sang, and played, their joy contagious, their innocence unfiltered. For many of them, it was the first time they experienced Onam as part of a larger family, a reminder that they too belong, that they too are seen and celebrated.
The event came alive with traditional games, cheerful laughter, and the aroma of the Onasadya, a feast that symbolised abundance and gratitude. As everyone sat together, sharing food and stories, barriers dissolved, and what remained was pure human connection.
🌾 Restoring Dignity, Rebuilding Belonging
Project UTSAV was never just about celebrating a festival; it was about celebrating people.
It was about restoring dignity where society had often looked away, and rekindling joy in hearts that had long been waiting for warmth.
The initiative reflected the deeper philosophy of Cahoots International Foundation that true celebration lies in inclusion. Festivals find their fullest meaning not in grandeur or luxury, but in the simple act of togetherness when every person, regardless of their background or circumstances, feels valued, respected, and loved.
In this gathering, there were no differences, no boundaries of privilege or pain. There was only unity, empathy, and shared humanity.
🌸 The Power of Shared Joy
What made Project UTSAV truly special was its authenticity; it wasn’t charity, it was companionship. The Cahoots team didn’t arrive as benefactors, but as friends. They played, laughed, and celebrated side by side with the children and caretakers, showing that joy grows exponentially when shared.
As the day unfolded, the Free Birds Home blossomed with life. The children’s eyes sparkled with newfound happiness, their laughter mingling with music and conversation. It was a day of reclaiming stories, identities, and self-worth.
Every smile told a story of resilience; every tear reflected gratitude; every hug echoed connection.
🌈 Festivals That Heal, Communities That Care
Through Project UTSAV, Cahoots International Foundation once again proved that social change can be tender, that transformation can wear the face of joy.
The event not only bridged emotional distances but also sparked a wider dialogue about inclusion and mental well-being, reminding us that healing doesn’t always happen in silence but often in shared celebration.
UTSAV became a living example of what Cahoots stands for: Compassion in Action.
A movement where art, culture, and empathy intertwine to build a world that honours both tradition and humanity.
As the day came to a close and the lamps of Onam flickered gently in the evening breeze, the message of UTSAV shone brighter than ever that festivals are not just about rituals, but about relationships; not just about giving, but about belonging.
🌻 Because When We Celebrate Others, We Celebrate Humanity Itself
Project UTSAV – Celebrating Dignity and Togetherness reminds us that the true spirit of Onam lives not in grand feasts or elaborate decor, but in the act of including every soul in the circle of celebration.
When compassion becomes culture and empathy becomes action, we create a society where no one is left behind, a society where every festival becomes a festival of freedom, love, and belonging.
