SURAKSHA – EMPOWERING FIRST RESPONDERS
Project SURAKSHA reflects Cahoots International Foundation’s larger vision of building a resilient, compassionate, and safety-conscious community. The initiative aligns with the foundation’s ongoing commitment to drive change through awareness, education, and collective responsibility.
Title: From Awareness to Action: Building a Safer Tomorrow
“In every moment of crisis lies the power to save a life.”
🚦 Turning Awareness into Action
In a world where every second can make the difference between life and death, the true heroes are often not those in uniform, but ordinary citizens who choose to act in extraordinary moments. Recognising the urgent need to bridge the gap between awareness and immediate action during emergencies, Cahoots International Foundation proudly launched Project SURAKSHA – Empowering First Responders, as part of the DC Road Safety Campaign Week in Kozhikode.
Held at the scenic Kozhikode Beach, the initiative brought together key civic authorities, healthcare experts, and citizens with a shared vision to make Kozhikode a city where every person is empowered to respond, protect, and save.
The event witnessed the gracious presence of District Commissioner and City Police Commissioner A. V. George, whose symbolic gesture of enrolling the first Road Safety Campaigner and pinning the inaugural badge marked not just the launch of a campaign, but the beginning of a community-driven movement towards a safer and more responsible tomorrow.
🚑 Empowering Hearts, Training Hands
At the heart of the program was an engaging and transformative trauma care training session, led by Dr P. P. Venugopal, the Executive Director of Angels, a pioneering voluntary organisation that has trained thousands across India in emergency medical response.
Through a hands-on and highly interactive workshop, participants were guided through crucial aspects of:
- Golden Hour Care – the life-saving window of opportunity immediately after an accident.
- Emergency Response Techniques – what to do and what not to do before professional help arrives.
- CPR and First Aid Skills – practical demonstrations to build confidence in real-world scenarios.
- Accident Scene Management – ensuring the safety of both the victim and responder while maintaining order until help arrives.
The session wasn’t just about learning it was about empowerment. By turning bystanders into responders, Cahoots and Angels together ignited a culture of readiness, courage, and compassion.
🧠 Knowledge That Saves, Awareness That Transforms
Every day, countless lives are lost not because of the severity of injuries, but because help doesn’t reach in time or those who witness the incident feel helpless. Project SURAKSHA directly tackles this reality by transforming passive onlookers into active lifesavers.
Participants discovered that saving a life doesn’t always require advanced equipment sometimes, it just takes presence of mind, timely action, and the will to help.
Through compelling real-life examples and live demonstrations, Dr Venugopal and his team illustrated how the “Golden Hour” can be used effectively, emphasising that the right response at the right time can prevent lifelong disabilities or even death.
The initiative inspired attendees to look beyond fear and hesitation to act, to assist, and to understand that every single one of us can be a first responder.
❤️ A Movement Rooted in Humanity
Beyond its technical and educational aspects, Project SURAKSHA carries a deeper message: that safety is not merely a rule; it is a responsibility.
By fostering a spirit of empathy and vigilance, Cahoots aims to cultivate a culture where helping is instinctive, where fear is replaced by knowledge, and where humanity triumphs over apathy.
The campaign also served as a heartfelt tribute to the unsung heroes, the emergency responders, volunteers, and everyday citizens who risk their safety to protect others. It reminded everyone that courage is not the absence of fear, but the decision to act despite it.
“We cannot prevent every accident, but we can ensure no life is lost to inaction.”
🌍 Building a Safer Kozhikode — One Citizen at a Time
Project SURAKSHA reflects Cahoots International Foundation’s larger vision of building a resilient, compassionate, and safety-conscious community. The initiative aligns with the foundation’s ongoing commitment to drive change through awareness, education, and collective responsibility.
As participants received their badges and certificates, they didn’t just walk away with new skills; they walked away with purpose. A purpose to act when needed, to extend a helping hand, and to embody the spirit of Suraksha in every road, every street, and every situation.
Cahoots believes that real change begins not in systems, but in people — in communities that care enough to respond. By empowering citizens through Project SURAKSHA, the foundation takes a powerful step towards making Kozhikode not only cleaner and kinder but safer.
✨ Because Every Second Counts
Emergencies don’t announce their arrival; they demand readiness. Through Project SURAKSHA, Cahoots redefines what it means to be prepared by transforming ordinary individuals into empowered lifesavers.
It is a reminder that when compassion meets courage, every second can count, and every helping hand can change a life.
“The true strength of a community lies not in its numbers, but in its ability to protect one another.”
And with SURAKSHA, Cahoots continues to build that strength, one trained heart, one courageous hand, and one saved life at a time.
